Power Shortages, Blackouts

Hey.. im back to blogging!!! After aeons!!!

So the latest in current issues..
Power cuts, blackouts!!
Already areas outskirts of Panvel face regular powercuts because of load shedding.. as the industries need electricity. Now some industries are closed on fridays bcoz there is a 6-12 hour power cut!!
Farms are drying up. Rest of the state lives in darkness where as Mumbai enjoys a major share of power.

Its the malls eating up the power required for about 2000 household per month. With so many neon lights, flyovers with 3 rows of street lights and 4 rows below, 2 on each of the roads split below each flyover!! Lights for advertising, lights for the brands, lights just for the decor of the malls and even for the aesthetics of the fountain adorned circles of the landscaped Hiranandani-Powai!!

Do we need so many multiplexes?? Do we really need so many malls? They are all coming at a very high price!! Mumbai is paying up the highest amount in the world for electricity! That should ring the awareness bell in Mumbaities, the authorities and those responsible for taking power-distribution decisions. If its too late, Bombay might just have to kiss the wanna-be-international-city dreams goodbye. Newer companies, BPOs will look for options else where. As if the pollution, the population multiplying because of influx of people from all over the country, the crowd, the rush at peak hours, the real estate costs, the traffic snarls weren't enough!! BKC, Speez, etc.. centers of hub are getting suffocated as well. The BEST strike left about 45 lakh commuters in the lurch, forcing them to take the already sardine-cans-like stuffed trains; which also meant serpentine queues. The strike just told us that the rickshaws will not take the road via Speez! It wouldn't be long before the MNCs, biggies and the future all of them try to by-pass the city.

We can start by doing our bit. Switch off the plug points of TVs, washing machines, cell chargers, computers, etc.. That saves about 5% energy. Let's all follow that like the new religion of Mumbai. I have already started that, have you?
